Stimulus Modality
A vibrating device held to the skin, whether or not it was intended to be painful, would have the tactile modality. It may have the subtype of a pain modality, depending on its strength.
The tactile modality covers a number of sub-terms (see related concepts). We acknowledge that there is some argument whether pain, pressure, and thermal modalities are sub-types of the tactile modality; but currently that seems to have little logical impact on this structure. If it is shown to lead to a logical error at some point we can change it.
